Rare and Untradeable Items

These items are especially hard to get, often requiring specific conditions or cross-game compatibility.
Brick Piece

A very rare item that can only be obtained by trading a Machop from a Gen 1 game to a Gen 2 game. The item has no use other than being sold for a meager 25 Yen.
Normal Box & Gorgeous Box

These two boxes can only be acquired by trading a Pokémon holding them from Pokémon Stadium to a Gen 2 game. The Normal Box gives you a Silver Trophy, while the Gorgeous Box gives you a Gold Trophy.
Egg Ticket

Only available in the Japanese version of Pokémon Crystal, this event item was obtained through the Game Boy Mobile System. It could be exchanged for an Odd Egg with a 50% chance of being a shiny Pokémon.
Gold & Silver Leaf

These rare items, which also appeared in Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee!, can be obtained in Gen 2 by trading up specific wild Pokémon from Gen 1 games.
Battle-Focused Items

Some of the most obscure items have unique, and sometimes game-breaking, effects in battle.
Dragon Fang & Dragon Scale

The Dragon Scale can be used to evolve Seadra into Kingdra and was intended to boost Dragon-type moves. However, a coding error made the Dragon Fang useless, and the Dragon Scale was given both properties.
Pink Bow & Polka Dot Bow

The Pink Bow is a Normal-type move booster and is a more common version of the rare Polka Dot Bow. The Polka Dot Bow can only be obtained by trading a wild Jigglypuff from a Gen 1 game.
Berserk Gene

An item so powerful that it was never seen again in a main series Pokémon game. When held, it raises a Pokémon’s attack by two stages but causes permanent confusion. However, this confusion can be removed with a Bitter Berry, making it an incredibly strong competitive item.
Other Notable Items

These items have a mix of peculiar uses and surprising backstories.
Pearl & Big Pearl

While commonly associated with Gen 3, these items actually debuted in Gen 2. They can be found on wild Shellder or purchased at the Goldenrod City underground bargain shop.
Sacred Ash

This item, held by Ho-Oh, can fully heal all Pokémon in your party. Curiously, it cannot be used during a battle.
Rage Candy Bar

A confusing healing item that costs 300 Yen but only heals for 20 HP, making it a surprisingly inefficient item to purchase.
