The Legacy of Romancing SaGa 2 SNES

Game features:

  1. Story:
Long ago, the Seven Heroes (warriors who saved the world from an evil god) vanished. Centuries later, the kingdom of Avalon is besieged by monsters. The emperor of Avalon fights back, but the true enemy is the Seven Heroes themselves, who have returned corrupted by their own power. You play as a lineage of emperors spanning generations. When your emperor dies, their successor takes the throne, inheriting their abilities and learned techniques. You must liberate regions, recruit party members (each with unique classes), defeat the Seven Heroes, and uncover the truth behind their fall. The story is non-linear—you can tackle regions in any order. The game has multiple endings.
  2. Classic Gameplay Mechanics:
Turn-based JRPG with a party of up to five characters (you can recruit many different classes: light infantry, heavy infantry, ranger, mage, etc.). The unique feature is the “glimmer” system: you learn new weapon techniques randomly during combat by using a weapon type repeatedly. This replaces traditional leveling for skills. The “formation” system: you can arrange your party in different formations (line, diamond, etc.), which affects stats (attack, defense, speed) and abilities. “Magic fusion”: you can combine two magic schools to create powerful fusion spells. The “imperial succession”: when your emperor dies (in battle or by other means), you choose a successor from your available party members. The successor inherits all learned techniques, magic, and formations. The game has a non-linear structure: you can explore the world map, choose which regions to liberate, and tackle dungeons in any order. Game over is permanent (if your emperor dies and no successor is available), but you can continue.
Reminder: The original SNES version was Japan-only; the information above is based on the original design and the later remaster.
  3. Challenging Enemies and Bosses:
Face a variety of monsters and powerful bosses. The Seven Heroes are the main antagonists: Kzinssie, Subier, Dantarg, Noel, Bokhohn, Rocbouquet, and Wagnas. Each has unique attacks and requires different strategies. The final boss is the ultimate evil. The game is famous for its high difficulty and non-linear structure.
  4. Generations, Glimmers, and Replayability:
Master the glimmer system to unlock all weapon techniques. Experiment with formations and party compositions. The game features multiple endings, side quests, and a New Game+ mode. With its non-linear structure, generational succession, and deep battle system, Romancing SaGa 2 offers excellent replayability.
