A boy draws a legendary sword (the Mana Sword) from a stone, inadvertently releasing the seal on ancient evil. The fall of the Mana Beast creates the “Mana Fortress,” which threatens the world. To stop it, the boy must restore the power of Mana. He is joined by a girl (daughter of a warrior) and a sprite (a descendant of the Mana race). Together, they travel to eight Mana Temples, collect the eight elemental spirits, and power up the Mana Sword. The story explores themes of friendship, sacrifice, and the balance of nature. The villain is the evil empire (led by Thanatos) and the final boss is the Mana Beast. - Classic Gameplay Mechanics:
Real-time action-RPG with a ring-menu system (press a button to open a radial menu, select spell, weapon, or item). You control one character; the other two are AI-controlled (but you can switch control to any character). Multiplayer co-op: up to three players can play simultaneously (with a multitap; standard is two-player by passing a controller). There are 8 weapons: sword, spear, axe, boomerang, bow, javelin, whip, and glove (fists). Each weapon has a charge meter (hold attack to charge for a stronger attack). Weapons level up with use (1-9). Magic: 8 elemental spirits, each with 8 spells (level 1-8). Spells also level up with use. The ring-menu pauses the game (in single-player), but in multiplayer, the game does not pause while a player selects a spell. The game has a large world map, towns, dungeons, and secret areas. - Challenging Enemies and Bosses:
Face a variety of enemies: goblins, werewolves, ghosts, dragons, and powerful bosses—including the infamous Spikey Tiger, the Wall Face, the Fire Gigas, the Ice Golem, and the final Mana Beast.
